Hongcun village in rural China
Hongcun (Chinese: 宏村, pinyin: Hóngcūn) is a village located in Anhui Province, China, near the southern slopes of the Huangshan Mountains. The history of the village is linked to the ancient Wang Clan who formed its family base there. Its birth dates back to the early 12th century during the Southern Song Dynasty. The village is located in the Anhui region, rich in rivers and lakes. The village together with others, located a few tens of kilometers from each other, has largely retained the traditional physiognomy.
The rural village of Hongcun is one of the most characteristic, with its pond located right in the heart of the country. The presence of tourists is not intrusive, they are only Chinese citizens. The relaxed, peaceful atmosphere and welcoming people contribute to making your stay pleasant. The feeling is to live the rhythms of centuries ago. The village is arranged in the shape of an ox with the nearby hill (Leigang Hill) interpreted as the head, and two trees high above it as the horns.
Four bridges across the Jiyin stream can be seen as the legs as the village houses form the body. Within the “body”, the Jiyin stream represents the intestine and various lakes such as the “South Lake” (Nanhu) form the other internal organs. Several palaces that belonged to the wealthy local families still retain the former housing structure with their courtyards, halls and gardens. Hongcun village is one of the most characteristic, with its pond located right in the heart of the country.
The film takes the interior of a typical Courtyard. This house belonged to a wealthy village merchant. The interior is in fine wood, finely inlaid.
The images of the village were taken during my trip to China in 2015.
